So I finished my weekend project. It was much easier and much less labor intensive than my earlier foray into the DIY world. My mom and I went to Home Depot on Wednesday afternoon and picked up a sheet of plywood, stain, and gold paint. (Well, I also bought several of these- on sale for $1.00 each!) The plywood came in several sizes, but I chose a 2x4 and had it cut down by a foot- they'll do the first two cuts for free, so take advantage. Since I was feeling lazy, I skipped sanding and just applied the stain directly. Easy peazy. The next day I did the lettering and lucky for me, the gold paint was water soluble- it took me a few strokes to get used to the brush. It's easier if you use Word to lay out how the text should look and use that as a template, but you could also do it by sight.
I think it turned out pretty well, and it looks much better up on the wall than it did laying on my parent's pool table. I'm planning on using the extra scrap (that was cut off at the store) to do a chevron painting for the bathroom. But that's a project for the next holiday.
I know nothing with any certainty,
but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
